Individual efforts basis of society’s vitality

While Chinese government continues to pay attention to the question of how to create a better social welfare system, there has been less talk about individual striving in recent years. In a certain sense, the former reflects the new vision of China's social construction.

However, regardless of the era, individual hardwork is always the basic cell of social vitality. In current China, whose economy has transformed from planned to market, individual struggle plays an increasingly important role in promoting social progress.

It is a kind of illusion that social welfare itself can lead to a happy life. Even in some European countries which have high welfare, social insurance cannot ensure people enjoy benefits from womb to tomb.

Europe's advanced welfare system can no longer be sustained. Following the old disastrous road in China will bring an end to the future of both the country and its youth.

Making individual dreams relevant again and making this slogan resound with the public should be a pragmatic ideological adjustment in Chinese society.

One cannot have a happy life without hard work. It is our country's responsibility to create a fair competitive environment and turn public wealth into reasonable distribution of welfare. However, fairness is relative. One's own effort is required to tie social fairness and personal fate together.

Over the past 30 years since China's reform and opening up, there have been many incredible stories of success in China. National reforms are closely related to personal efforts in various ways. Although problems still exist in Chinese society's institutional arrangements, positive reform and individual achievements have created chances for many people to change their destiny.

Realistically speaking, entrepreneurs in the early stage of the reform and opening up faced much worse conditions and undertook many more risks than they do today. Improving lives through diligent work was always the first choice for people at that time.

The later, more mature social system was designed under the impetus of the hard work of the people from that generation.

The level of social welfare will definitely improve gradually as the era advances. However, no matter how it advances, social welfare is characterized by a "baseline." Lives cannot be successful if we place our hope of happiness on resources at our fingertips instead of realizing dreams through making efforts, not only in China, but also the whole world.

A positive attitude towards life is vital to everyone. Personal struggle is a basic necessity for harmony between people and society. A society cannot run out of steam if it really encourages citizens' efforts.

Personal striving is an instinctive as well as the most profound philosophy in society.

Chinese society's emphasis on collectivism has never really contradicted individual's role. Instead, it encourages people to work harder and guides their moral direction at the same time, which creates a characteristically Chinese form of individual struggle, and is also a sign of the times.
