Zhang Yi, 41, a homosexual man, said at a press conference called "Disclose Homophobia Textbooks around You" in commemoration of the International Day against Homophobia (May 17). At the age of 16, puzzled with the feelings he had for a boy, Zhang found a medical textbook with this passage. Facing great psychological distress, Zhang attempted suicide.
