A Beijing woman named Li, attempting to skirt Beijing's residency laws, suggested to her husband that they file for divorce so their son could get a local household registration permit, the Beijing Times reports.
Her husband Zhang agreed, swearing he would continue to love her as they waited to get remarried.
After the divorce, Zhang borrowed 100,000 yuan ($16,270) from Li, saying he needed it to get the permit for the boy. However, the boy never received his papers, and Zhang told Li he had a new girlfriend and refused to remarry her. The brokenhearted Li sued Zhang. Zhang was sentenced to return the money to Li at the Beijing No.2 Intermediate Court.
