A five-month-old girl suffocated to death in a quilt after being left unattended in a room, according to Beijing News.
On May 9, the mother was cooking in the kitchen and the infant and her one-and-a-half-year-old sister left in the room. The two siblings went into the bedroom and the door locked behind them.
The family had to break through a window to get in to the room, and discovered the infant was not breathing.
Lawyer Du Fuhai said that the parents may face criminal charges for negligence.
A neighbor said that the family are from Henan Province.
In the wake of the tragedy, the family moved out of the rented apartment in Tongzhou district on Wednesday.
