Australian Labor Party's primary vote is still at a low level and the new federal budget last week will not change the voters' minds, the latest Newspoll showed Monday.

According to the latest Newspoll of The Australian, conducted on the weekend, Labor's primary vote was unmoved on 31 percent and the Coalition's was virtually unchanged on 46 percent. The analysis of local media said Monday that the Coalition continues to hold an easy election-winning lead.

The figures of the Newspoll showed that 41 percent thought the opposition could produce a better budget, up 4 percentage points from last year.

More people among both low- and high-income earners considered they would be "personally worse off" under the latest budget last week. In previous surveys, more low-income earners thought they would be better off.

And satisfaction with both the prime minister and opposition leader was steady, although Julia Gillard closed the gap on Tony Abbott as preferred prime minister, but Tony Abbott remains one point ahead.

In addition, on the question of who would make the better Treasurer, Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey led federal Treasurer Wayne Swan for the first time by 39 percent to 35 percent.
