Myanmar's union parliament began its special session in Nay Pyi Taw Monday, two months after the last regular session.
Presided over by speaker of the two-house union parliament U Khin Aung Myint, the session will seek approval on declaration of state of emergency in riot-hit Meikhtila and its extension of the period of emergency.
The matter will be discussed in Monday's session and the decision is expected to come out on Tuesday.
Myanmar President U Thein Sein declared a state of emergency in four townships in Meikhtila District of northern Mandalay region on March 22 as communal riot escalated after its outbreak.
Four townships including Meikhtila, Wandwin, Mahlaing and Thazi were covered by the state of emergency.
Meikhtila has now returned to normal, with local residents resuming their normal life as reported.
Despite the restoration of peace and stability, the state of emergency is still in force to ensure non-recurrence of riot and unrest there.
In the riot, a total of 43 people were killed and 86 others injured with 1,355 houses, shops and buildings being destroyed as well as 39 various vehicles being burnt.
The series of riots were sparked by a brawl between buyers and sellers over a bit of gold clip at a gold shop in Meikhtila on March 20.
In addition, the parliament's special session passed a proposal to establish a joint commission for studying rights of employers and employees.
The session came before a next regular session, which is the 7th and was set to convene in late June after the end of the last 6th session on March 21.
