Fine visual art both baffles and turns off the public, so museums should do a better job at presenting it in an understandable way, reports the Chinese Culture Daily, a newspaper run by the Ministry of Culture.

Some 18 of 20 recent visitors to the National Art Museum of China polled for the report said they would never go back. The two who said they would return were art students. More than one-third of Beijing's museums have no detailed explanations or guides, the report said, noting that even highly educated people rarely go to museums, causing the artistic accomplishments of Chinese lag far behind Westerners.
