Each medalist in the upcoming Kazan World Summer Universiade will be awarded a cash prize, the Russian government said Tuesday.

Gold medal winners will be awarded with 168,000 rubles (about 5,400 U.S. dollars). Silver medalists will get some 2,600 dollars and bronze medalists will earn 1,600 dollars, according to a decree signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Coaches and other sports staff of the 27th Universiade will also receive money incentives, though of the less volume, the decree said.

Russia finished second with 132 medals, including 42 gold, at the biennial Universiade in China's Shenzhen in 2011.

The bonus will be allocated by the sports ministry and the Russian Students Sports Union (RSSU), which are both the organizers of the Games.

The RSSU said earlier that 663 Russian athletes are expected to compete in the Games, which run from July 6 through 17.
