French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday expressed solidarity with the United States after a powerful tornado attacked Oklahoma leaving dozens of people killed.
In a statement issued by the President's office, Hollande paid tribute to "those who face it (the tornado) with courage and determination on this exceptional situation," and at the same time, "address our country's condolences to the families and relatives of the victims."
The French Foreign Ministry also expressed its "deep shock at the tragic consequences of the powerful tornado that hit the Oklahoma City area in the southern United States yesterday."
"In the face of this disaster, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the victims' families and express our solidarity with the American authorities and people," a foreign minister statement read.
A powerful tornado struck the southern suburbs of Oklahoma City, capital of the US state of Oklahoma, on Monday afternoon. At least 24 people were confirmed dead. The official death toll had been put at 51 earlier.
