A senior US official on Tuesday urged Bosina and Herzegovina (BiH) to reform in a bid to join NATO and the EU.

During a lecture at the American University in BiH, Philip Reeker, Deputy Assistant Secretary of US State Department, said the US and the EU are still committed to helping BiH on its Euro-Atlantic path.

He noted BiH has made significant progress since 1990s but still faces a lot of difficulties.

The way out for BiH is to join NATO and the EU, which will lead to better economic situation, Reeker added.

Reeker listed two major blockades facing BiH in its road to NATO and the EU: one is related to registering state military property while the other is implementation of Sejdic-Finci ruling by the European Court of Human Rights.

"Political leaders have been discussing these issues behind closed doors for more than three years. But every time they come close to agreement, someone changes his mind or they simply never implement the agreement," he said.
