"It used to be a pavilion where people could have cups of tea, but it has changed. Now, common people can only pass by it."
A visitor at Zizhuyuan Park comments on the addition of Wenyue Lou, a high-end restaurant, inside the Haidian district park. The restaurant, which has a traditional Chinese garden setting including rockeries, pavilions and long corridors, is a popular venue for luxury banquets attended by government officials and business people. Management has defended the restaurant, saying its revenue helps the park meet its operational costs. But others are less impressed, saying it has turned the park into an elite dining haven. Other such venues in Beijing parks include the Fangshan Restaurant in Beihai Park, the Wanliuge Club in Longtan Park and the Jianyi Club in Honglingjing Park. (Source: The Beijing News)
