New investors face data onslaught

Chinese investors looking for information on the financial market and the broader economy certainly can't complain about a lack of data. Every month, we are inundated with countless reports and projections from banks, brokerages, information providers and myriad other institutions, all of whom are competing for investors' eyeballs.

As more individuals enter the market to preserve their wealth against inflation, my concern is that less-experienced investors will be bewildered by the amount of information constantly flooding over them. In fact, small-time capital holders may not realize that the data provided in many reports is usually just a snapshot of the market and not necessarily indicative of longer-term trends. Moreover, I also fear that new investors might not understand the jargon that their more seasoned peers will be familiar with.

In the future, I hope that report compilers can pay more attention to the needs of their non-professional readers.
