Ma Mountains, Guizhou
- Inhabiting the Ma Mountains in Guizhou Province, the local Miao people have retained their colorful ethnic identity due in no small part to the area's isolated location. In 2009, an epic chant called "The King Yalu" sung by local sorcerers was made public. The chant tells the story of the life of tribal leader King Yalu, including his legendary battles and expeditions. The chant also passes down oral history among the local Miao people. Yang Guangwen, 55, is a member of the eighth generation in his family who sings the chant, which helps the Miao people find peace after death to reunite with their ancestors.
