The globe-trotting Omnivore World Tour returns to Shanghai this year celebrating global gastronomy through a series of master classes, two gourmet dinners and an Omnivorious Party, from Thursday, June 20 to Saturday, June 22.

The Omnivore World Tour travels to major cities around the world, from San Francisco to Moscow, bringing renowned chefs from around the world and local chefs together in each city it visits.

According to founder Luc Bubanchet, the idea behind the Omnivore World Tour is "to share culinary inspirations, experiment with innovative techniques, confront other cultures and help create a movement that better envisions the future."

One part of the events will be the master classes, where local and international chefs and mixologists will showcase their talents on stage. This year's master classes will be taught by 14 chefs, including Shannon Debreceny from Three Blue Ducks in Bronte, Australia (Friday, June 21, from 3:30 pm to 4:10 pm), and two childhood friends Julien Burlat and Julien Bobichon from Dome and Dome sur Mer in Antwerp. Burlat started his career alongside some of the most renowned chefs in France and went on to establish two restaurants and a bakery. He invited his childhood friend Bobichon to become the chef of Dome sur Mer. Their class will run from 10:30 am to 11:10 am on Saturday, June 22.

The highlight of the master classes will be Danny Bowien, Korean-American chef and founder of Mission Chinese Food in San Francisco and New York City that specializes in serving Chinese dishes with a twist, like savory egg custard with sea urchin, kung pao pastrami, or a dry-fried veal rib. In 2011, Bon Appetit magazine named it the second-best new restaurant in the US. His master class will run on Friday, June 21, from 12 pm to 12:40 pm.

Local chefs demonstrating their skills include Franck Elie Laloum from Jade on 36, who worked in some of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in France (Saturday, June 22, from 11:15 am to 11:55 am), Paul Pairet of Mr & Mrs Bund and Ultraviolet (Saturday, June 22, from 12 pm to 12:40 pm), and Thibault Pouplard from Colagreco, who specializes in creative dishes made from organic products grown in the restaurant's garden (Saturday, June 22, from 4:15 pm to 4:55 pm).

All the master classes take place at the Shanghai Gallery of Art (3/F, Three the Bund). Entrance is free but seats must be reserved in advance.

In addition to the master classes, the three-day food festival will feature two "Amazing Dinners." These tailored dining experiences are prepared by a pair of top chefs, one international and one based in Shanghai. The dinners will take place on Thursday, June 20, at Colagreco (Three on the Bund, 2/F, 3 Zhongshandongyi Road, 5308-5396), prepared by Colagreco executive chef Thibault Pouplard and Mission Chinese Food's Danny Bowien and on Saturday, June 22, at Franck by Franck Pecol and Julien Bobichon (376 Wukang Road, 6437-6465). To book a table, contact the restaurant directly.

The Omnivorious Party on Friday, June 21, will be the highlight of the tour with DJs spinning tunes, mixologists pouring cocktails, and chefs who took part in the festival preparing canapés (from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm at Shanghai Gallery of Art).

A new edition to this year's event schedule is the Omnivore Pop Up Dinner. It will take place on Saturday, June 22, at 8 pm at Shanghai Showroom (Unit 201, 2/F, Chong Hing Financial Center, 288 Nanjing Road West). The dinner will be prepared by two chefs: the Belgium-based Frenchman Julien Burlat and Australian Shannon Debreceny.
