Hong Kong citizen killed in car-train collision in Malaysia

A Hong Kong citizen was killed and three injured when their car was hit by a passing train in Malaysia's tourist city of Kota Kinabalu on North Borneo, local media reported Wednesday.

The victim in his 50s was driving with three family members when a train rammed into their car in a juncture near the Kota Kinabalu International Airport in the afternoon.

He was trapped in the car before being brought out by the rescue team.

The car collided with another vehicle after hit by the train, but the husband and wife as well their child in the vehicle were not injured.

Some 200 passengers on the train were unhurt.

Police said the two men and two women in the car, aged between 50 to 70, were Hong Kong citizens.

Authorities said early investigation showed that the driver had been warned that a train was passing by but failed to escape in time.
