No.1 Woman kills husband, self while learning to park  老婆倒车撞死老公 27859

A woman tragically killed her husband and herself while backing up her car in an underground parking garage in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province on June 18 as their 6-year-old daughter watched in horror from inside the car.

Qianjiang Evening News reported 41-year-old driver surnamed Lin, who was issued a driver’s license in May, was practicing backing up her Lexus RX270 SUV into a parking space as her husband directed from behind, when she backed up too far and pinned him against the wall.

According to the report, Lin stuck her head out the window upon hearing her husband’s scream, and accelerated in an attempt to move forward. She however forgot to change gears from reverse to drive, which not only killed him instantly but caused her head to get stuck between the car and a wall along the parking space.

Rescue team arrived soon after but Lin died from her sustained injuries in a nearby hospital, said the report. The couple’s 6-year-old daughter saw the entire tragedy unfold from inside the car.

A source surnamed Yang said that Lin had successfully parked in the space once before that day, but her husband asked her to do it again because she needed the practice.

The explosion occurred after local firefighters arrived at the newly-opened restaurant in Shuozhou in response to a fire that started around 9:30 pm. Three fire trucks were damaged in the blast. Authorities are still investigating the cause behind the incident.

No.3: Science behind Chinese breakfast revealed  油条必须两根一起炸 3308

A Weibo post asking the eternal question as to why a traditional Chinese breakfast treat is always deep-fried in pairs was forwarded 50,000 times in three days, and earned a surprisingly scientific response.

Jia Xiaoxin, a Sina Weibo blogger, posted the question on June 17 after she had bought some youtiao, or long, deep-fried strips of dough, for breakfast.

While some pointed out youtiao is actually one long strip doubled over in order to fit into a deep fryer, Lai Hsi-mei, a professor with the College of Bioscience and Agriculture at National Taiwan University, explained that the answer lies in basic culinary science.

Lai said the overlapping part of the dough, since it is thicker and remains uncooked longer, provides vital time for the dough to expand from the heat, adding to the youtiao’s crispy and fluffy texture.

A youtiao that is not doubled over cooks too quickly and is not given the opportunity to fluff, making it not as tasty.
