Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member of the 18th CPC Politburo Standing Committee, visited Volvo Car Corporation, a famous car company under Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 2, 2013. Li Shufu, the founder and chairman of Volvo's owner Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, members of the board of directors, senior managers as well as union leaders of Volvo, were among those who welcomed the delegation.
Li Shufu gave a report on the management framework of Volvo Car Corporation and CEO Hakan Samuelsson introduced the company’s operation and management condition to Yu and the delegation. After listening to the report on scientific and technical innovation achievements, Yu spoke highly of Volvo’s accomplishment in new energy areas such as Pure Electric Vehicle, Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle, he expressed his praise on the world’s first Pedestrian Airbag technology created by Volvo V40, the safest technology in the world, and his heartfelt appreciation on Volvo’s significant inventions and creation in safety and environmental protection fields such as in-car air quality management, safety belt, safety seat and three-way catalyst.
In Volvo’s safety collision laboratory, Yu watched the collision experiment that two S60 sedans collided with a small contact area by an angle of 12 degrees. Because of the small contact area and the strong impact force, this kind of collision requires a car with an extraordinary safety performance. Although the exterior suffered severe damage, all the safety functions were fulfilled as expected, which really amazed the audience, especially on seeing the dummy driver and child dummy in the back row safe and sound. Yu acclaimed: “The safety protection for children is crucial, and this child dummy is at roughly the same age as my youngest grandson, I feel really delighted when seeing he is safe and sound.”
There were another two Volvo cars in the collision laboratory recently dragged back from crash accident. The two cars collided on high way and the high speed led to serious damage to the body part, which is beyond recognition now; however, the drivers were uninjured. “To my great surprise, Volvo’s safety technology is marvelous; you cannot feel this unless you are at the site. I would advise you to exhibit such experiment in China’s 4S shops so as to inform Chinese customers of the distinctive features of Volvo safety technology”, said Yu.
Leaders from Volvo also introduced Volvo’s development in China, especially its plan to build plants in the southwestern city of Chengdu and the northeastern city of Daqing and an engine plant in Zhangjiakou city of Hebei province. With 200 units S80L served as VIP reception car for Fortune Global Forum, Volvo is also a sponsor for this year's Fortune Global Forum hosted in Chengdu. Yu expressed his delight on Volvo’s achievements in China and wished Volvo faster and better worldwide development, especially in Chinese market.
