China's top quality supervision agency issued a statement Wednesday saying that Ford China has filed a plan to recall 409 cars it has sold in the Chinese mainland, including the 2013 model of the imported Ford Explorer.

The products, made from January 31 2012 to January 10 2013, have flawed module connectors for fuel transmission in their gas tanks, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The agency said that the connectors might crack after long use, leading to gas leakage. The problem could cause engine malfunctions, make the vehicle difficult to start, or even start a fire if the car is close to ignition sources.
