Colombian authorities seized 6.5 tons of drugs on Wednesday, including six tons of marijuana and half a ton of cocaine, official sources said.

The marijuana was hidden in a truck intercepted by police on a highway in the country's southwestern department of Valle del Cauca, police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the navy said in a report that it seized more than half a ton of cocaine in the country's northwestern region, bringing to 3.3 tons the total amount of cocaine it has confiscated this year.

The navy added that so far this year they have handed over 43 people to the program of Humanitarian Attention to the Demobilized, which provides food, housing, health and education for those who voluntarily lay down their arms.
