A court in East China's Jiangsu Province made the country's first verdict on Monday that will force a daughter to visit her elderly mother more frequently, after a new law on elderly people's rights was enacted the same day.

The People's Court in the Beitang district of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, ruled Monday morning that the daughter of the elderly woman must visit her mother at least once every two months and must also provide for her mother financially.

The elderly mother sued her daughter in court earlier this year after conflicts broke out between them and the mother left to live with her son. The daughter later refused to care for the mother any more.

The verdict was the first of its kind in the country after China launched a new revision of an elderly rights law on Monday that demands family members to visit and care for their aged parents, and provide financial support.
