Shanghai's peak electricity load hit a new record high of 26.77 million kilowatts Tuesday, when the city endured its ninth day this year when the temperature exceeded 35 C, eastday.com reported.

The city's peak electricity load exceeded the last record of 26.21 million kilowatts, which was set in 2010.

Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Co estimated the peak load will hit 28.5 million kilowatts this year on extremely hot days. The company said it can meet the demand.
