At least two Indian policemen were wounded after militants lobbed a grenade on a police party in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Wednesday.

The grenade attack took place late Tuesday evening at Narbal locality on the outskirts of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Militants lobbed a grenade at a police vehicle near Narbal last evening wounding two policemen," said a police official. "The wounded policemen were immediately shifted to hospital."

Soon after the incident, the contingents of police and paramilitary cordoned off the area to conduct searches. However, no one was arrested.

So far no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police said they have started investigations into the attack.

Last month, militants attacked an Indian army convoy in Srinagar, killing eight troopers and wounded several others.

A guerrilla war has been going on between militants and the Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989. Exchange of fire between militants and Indian army troopers in Indian-controlled Kashmir takes place intermittently.
