At least 85 people were injured overnight Sunday in clashes between the supporters and opponents of ousted President Mohamed Morsi in northeastern Egypt's Suez governorate, the governorate's Health Ministry said on Monday.
Birdshot and tear gas were fired in the clashes, said Mohamed al-Azizy, undersecretary of the Health Ministry, according to official news agency MENA.
Nine of Morsi's loyalists were wounded, al-Azizy added.
Meanwhile, state-run Ahram website reported that 112 people were wounded in long-hour battles between pro- and anti-Morsi people in the governorate's iconic Al-Arbaeen Square.
Those injured, including two children, suffered from gunshot and birdshot, Ahram added.
The clashes started with verbally assaults between the two sides and turned into violence after exchanging gunfire and stone- throwing.
Tens of victims filed a report of the incident, accusing figures of the Muslim Brotherhood of inciting thugs and gunmen to attack the residents in Suez, MENA said.
Tensions have been escalating in the rival factions since Morsi was toppled on July 3, in response to massive protestors who flooded the streets to ask Morsi and his MB group to leave.
Morsi's backers continued their sit-in for the third week, deeming ousting their legitimate president as a "military coup," while his opponents criticized Islamic ruling's bad performance and back the armed forces with its roadmap.
