A man picked a baby from a stroller, raised him/her to the air and then suddenly flung him/her down to the ground on Tuesday evening in Beijing's southwest district of Daxing.

A surveillance video showed the mother bending down to look at the baby in the stroller when a white car drove by. The men in the car apparently exchanged a few words with the woman. A man on the passenger seat then got out of the car, pushed the woman and then dropped the baby. The whole incident lasted for about three minutes.

Another man in the car also got out and hit the woman. The two then drove away from the scene.

A man surnamed Zhou provided an account of the incident as a witness. He had also handed over the surveillance video record to the police.

The baby, who stopped breathing several times, is still in critical condition at an ICU, the Legal Evening News reports. The Beijing Times previously reported the baby had died.

The suspect, surnamed Han has been apprehended by police. The bespectacled middle-aged man is a Beijing local. He was released from prison earlier this year for burglary.
