Over 10,000 affected by N China floods

At least 10,000 people in a forest region in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region have been affected by rain-triggered floods, local authorities said on Sunday.

In the worst-hit Tulihe Township of Yakeshi City, mountain torrents swept the township on Sunday. More than 1,200 houses were inundated and over 3,000 residents were affected.

More than 130 officers and soldiers from a branch of an armed police of the Greater Hinggan Mountains have been dispatched to rescue and relocate the residents.

Another 1,000 personnel from local government, forest police and public security police have participated in the efforts of consolidating dams and reservoirs in the city.

As of 10 pm Sunday, more than 10,000 people in Genhe City have also been affected by floods. Relevant departments are still counting the specific losses of the city.

According to local meteorological department, rains will continue in the following days, and the situation of flood prevention is severe.
