Paraxylene production slowing

If China doesn't keep up with other countries in paraxylene (PX) production, which is used to make polyester, it will have to rely on imports and will have no say in the global market.

This will affect the polyester and textile companies that use PX as a raw material.

Demand for PX is huge in China, a large manufacturer and exporter of textiles.

The chemical is also crucial in making plastic bottles and in the oil, medical and biochemical industry.

However, recent controversies in China over the chemical's safety have derailed many plans to build PX plants, leading to stagnation in its production.

People often associate chemical plants with pollution, but usually only small plants have safety and environmental issues.

It remains the case that no accidents have ever occurred in PX plants since they were first built in China in 1985.
