The ongoing heat wave will persist through this week despite the beginning of Liqiu, the 13th of the 24 traditional Chinese solar periods.

Liqiu, which means "the start of autumn," begins Wednesday, according to the local weather bureau.

It's supposed to mean that the days will become gradually cooler. However, the weather bureau said the high temperature may hit 39 C in the city and will remain high over the following week.
