China's railway police have caught 169 train ticket scalpers since they launched a crackdown on July 1, said the Ministry of Public Security.

Police have cracked 157 ticket scalping cases and uncovered 11 dens involved in speculative reselling of tickets as of August 2. Nearly 5,700 tickets worth over 900,000 yuan ($146,946) have been confiscated.

Security at outside ticket booths and railway station ticket offices has been stepped up since July 1.

Police often launch crackdowns against ticket scalpers during major travel periods. The summer travel rush is from July 1 to August 31.
