The first round of presidential elections in Madagascar is feasible on Oct. 8-18, according to the independent national electoral commission (CENIT).

CENIT President Atallah Beatrice on Friday said the second round should be done with the legislative elections between Nov.29 and December.

However, Beatrice said it depends on the Malagasy politicians who should take a decision as soon as possible.

Beatrice said the political problem in the country should be solved by Aug. 20, if the Indian Ocean island country wants to hold the election.

"Nevertheless, elections this year 2013 depend heavily on politicians who participate in elections," Atallah said.

The CENIT is waiting also for the new CES, which will update the list of candidates to the presidential race before deciding with UN experts the definitive date for the polls.

The holding of elections on schedule also depends on funding, Beatrice said.

"The CENIT is truly independent in the preparation of elections but the roadmap which setup the CENIT in Madagascar mentioned also the Malagasy state, the international community, the Malagasy politicians and the special electoral court (CES). So the CENIT should wait also them before deciding anything," Atallah said.

Initially set for July 24, the election was postponed sine die by the CENIT amid a stalemate between the international community and some of 41 candidates validated by the CES.
