Police in Qingdao, East China’s Shandong Province rescued a man from a shipping container stacked 20 meters high on August 9 after he passed out inside while drunk the night before thinking he had arrived home, CRI Online reported.

The man surnamed Jiang awoke at 7:20 am when dock workers at the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone began stacking containers, including the one he was in, scheduled to be sent to the US the next day.

Finding himself trapped in a dark container, Jiang called a friend with his mobile phone, who immediately notified police.

Around 40 policemen and 60 dock workers joined in the two-hour search for Jiang, who managed to communicate to rescuers his container number and also banged on the door to alert them of his location.

It turned out Jiang mistook the container as his apartment at 4 am and fell asleep inside, the report said.

It is unclear from the report why Jiang was at the shipping yard at 4 am.
