A Saudi Arabian student was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday for attempted rape in Central China's Hunan Province, a local court said on August 16.

Alsubaie Bader Fahad, a Chinese language student at a university in the provincial capital of Changsha, will be deported after serving the jail term, the Furong District People's Court said in verdict.

The 22-year-old tried to rape a 38-year-old woman near a commercial square in Changsha on the morning of April 4, the court found.

Fahad, who had also consumed alcohol on the morning of the attack, had molested the woman at a KFC restaurant earlier in the morning.

Fahad continued to pursue the woman after she ran out of the restaurant, and was caught by police after passersby stopped his attempt to rape the woman in the square, the court said.
