The Party chief of Laojing village in Dengfeng, Henan Province is being praised and questioned by Net users, after he invested his own money into building new homes for local residents in his area.

The Party chief, Liu Tingjie, born in 1964, also the head of Henan Songyue Chamber of Commerce and the board chairman of the investment group, Jinpeng Group, poured 100 million yuan ($16.32 million) of his personal finances into a residential building complex set to be done by the year's end. Villagers will move into the new homes without having to pay for them, Dahe Daily reported, saying that Liu has over 3 billion yuan in assets.

Net user veronica_6338 applauded Liu, saying that he seeks happiness for others and is a role model for officials.

But other Net users were more critical, alleging that he is a "corrupt official" trying to appear innocent.

"If he earned all that money legally, then why would he just give it away? First, we need to investigate where the money comes from, and if it's from salary earnings, well then, who can earn 100 million yuan?" said Net user canoe-chen.

But a Net user from Xi'an, Shaanxi Province said that it's unfair for people to accuse Liu of being a corrupt official, adding that "even if he is corrupt, at least he gives benefits to the public - and for that, he should be respected as a good person."
