A flight attendant trainee with American Airlines was dismissed, after being found on the government's no-fly list for making bomb threats, US media reported Wednesday.

The trainee identified as 40-year-old Patrick Cau was in a training program in Fort Worth, Texas, the headquarter of American Airlines in May when he was fired, local TV ABC13 reported.

The report said Cau managed to pass the background check as he got another name Patrick Kaiser on the no-fly list. It was likely that Cau was added to the list after the check, according to American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller.

Cau allegedly phoned in eight bomb threats from October to January against six United Airlines flights, all of which flied between Los Angeles and London, according to an 18-page plea agreement filed in federal court, California.

Approximately 268,000 US dollars were lost in canceled and delayed flights due to Cau's threats, said United Airlines.

Cau, expected to plead guilty to the charges next week, could serve a maximum of five years in prison. He has agreed to pay 250,000 US dollars to United Airlines.

There is no word yet on why he made bomb threats.
