Chinese police have detained a man in South China's Guangdong Province for spreading rumors about bombs on board a train.

Last Tuesday, police in Guangzhou, capital of the province, received an anonymous tip claiming that a 18-year-old tattooed man got on the K1206 train to Shenzhen with 10 kg of bombs, according to a statement released Friday by the railway police.

Upon receiving the information, stewards on the train searched and found two men who fitted the description but failed to find any explosive devices in their luggage.

Shenzhen police searched all passengers upon arrival around two hours later but found nothing suspicious.

Later on that day, police arrested a suspect surnamed Fan at an entertainment venue in the city of Zhaoqing in Guangdong.

Fan admitted his fabrication, claiming it was an act of revenge against a man named Gao who he suspected of stealing money and a cell phone from him and went on board a train to Shenzhen.

Fan will be detained for another ten days.

The railway police promise to deal very severely with any similar incidents.
