Net users are questioning whether a policeman must be "good-looking" after the top-scorer on a civil service exam was rejected for a position because he has acne.

On August 13, a Net user posted online saying that although he ranked first for the total score of written and interview tests for the position of Internet policeman in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, he was declined during the physical examination process of his acne.

"A policeman should be good-looking, and people who are ugly cannot become one," a doctor said to the candidate on August 4 during the physical examination.

On Thursday, the prefecture's human resources and social security bureau announced that the doctor's judgment was independent, and should not be changed.

The bureau said the acne on his face is hard to cure. They added that it is categorized as a dermatological disease and he cannot be employed in accordance with the rules on recruitment.
