Current Acting Minister for Social and Family Development of Singapore Chan Chun Sing will be promoted to full minister and continue to helm the ministry from Sept. 1, the city-state's Prime Minister Office (PMO) announced Wednesday.

Chan, also the current Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence, will be Second Minister for Defence ever since the beginning of next month. Chan's promotion will make him "the youngest full minister in Cabinet," local paper the Straits Times said.

This was one of several changes to the city-state's Cabinet announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Tan Chuan-Jin will continue as Acting Minister for Manpower and relinquish his appointment as Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of National Development.

Meanwhile, four female politicians will be promoted. Among them, Minister of State for Health and Manpower Amy Khor Lean Suan will be promoted to Senior Minister of State for the heath and manpower ministries. Current Minister of State for Finance and Transport Josephine Teo will also be promoted to Senior Minister of State for the two ministries.

Other two female politicians, Sim Ann and Low Yen Ling, will also see promotion. Among them, the current backbencher Low will join the government from the beginning of October. She will be parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
