Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Barack Obama met on the sidelines of a G20 summit on Friday but they still remained at odds over the conflict in Syria.

Putin told a press conference that they spoke for 20 or 30 minutes. While the two leaders kept their own opinions on Syria, the meeting was "constructive and meaningful."

The Russian presdient also said Obama did not request the extradition of former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, who has received temporary asylum in Russia.

Obama cancelled a planned meeting with Putin during the G20 summit, citing lack of progress in bilateral relations.
