A Shanghai-based budget airline company is reversing the stereotypical belief in China that the job of a flight attendant is only one to be had by young, beautiful women in their 20s.

Spring Airlines has changed its job requirements to favor work experience and personality over age and physical appearance, prompting over 2,000 women, many of whom are older than 30 and have at least one child, to apply.

Around 20 of the applicants who are 45-years-old, the upper age limit, joked that they might have the chance to become China's oldest stewardesses. In China, air stewardesses above the age of 40, never mind 50, or "Grandma stewardesses," are unheard of.

Recruiters said that people of different ages have their own advantages: younger people tend to be more energetic, while older hires are often more mature and warmer to passengers.
