Nabil Maaloul, the coach of Tunisia's national football team, announced his resignation following the team's 2-0 defeat by Cape Verde on Saturday evening in Tunis.

During a press conference after the match, Maaloul apologized to the Tunisian people saying he took full responsibility for the defeat.

Maaloul who trained the Carthage Eagles since February 2013, also trained Esperance Sportive de Tunis until 2010 before coaching a number of Gulf teams.

Tunisia's defeat at the hands of Cape Verde on Saturday sounded the death knell of its qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
