The Republic of Korea will actively participate in the development of S. korea-Vietnam energy and infrastructure cooperation projects in Vietnam, said South Korean President Park Geun-hye.

Park made the statement at a press briefing after talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Truong Tan Sang in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Monday.

South Korean businesses will cooperate with Vietnam in power projects in southern Vietnam including the Nghi Son 2 thermal power project, said Park.

The two sides agreed that S. Korea's experience in nuclear power will greatly contribute to the development of nuclear power in Vietnam, which is an important step in boosting energy and nuclear power cooperation between the two countries, said Park.

The two sides also agreed to work to resume the program of sending Vietnamese guest workers to S. Korea, said Park. The two presidents agreed to lift bilateral trade turnover to $27 billion by 2020, as the figure reached $20 billion in 2012, three years earlier than scheduled.

The two sides also reached consensus on accelerating the negotiation of a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries. They hope to sign it 2014.

Vietnamese President Sang said the two sides will further cooperate in regional and international organizations including the United Nations (UN), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) as well as the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Sang expressed his belief that the visit of S. Korean President to Vietnam will give a momentum to the strategic partnership between the two countries for peace and development in the region and the world.

After the talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation agreements, including one on the establishment of the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology in Vietnam, which is hoped to boost the country's science and technology development.
