According to the Beijing Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention, nearly 90,000 people were vaccinated against rabies between January and July after being bitten by cats or dogs. An 83-year-old man from Fangshan district became the latest fatality, losing his battle to the disease this month after being bitten by a dog earlier this year.

34 - the number of bedbug cases reported in Beijing since August 7, when a bedbug alert was issued by the Beijing Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention. Fourteen cases were reported in group-rented homes accommodating migrant workers, nine at school dormitories and four at hotels.

13.5%- the proportion of seniors in Beijing whose mental health condition is "below normal," according to a report released by the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau. This percentage accounts for nearly 330,000 seniors. Li Hongbing, spokesman of the bureau, said 20 mental health clinics are being set up citywide to treat seniors and other members of the public with mental illnesses.
