The Czech anti-corruption police on Wednesday arrested tens of football players over betting and influencing matches, said the police's spokesman Jaroslav Ibehej.

Ibehej said that detectives from the Squad for Uncovering Corruption and Financial Crime have been securing pieces of evidence in connection with a suspicion of corrupt behaviour in football matches on Wednesday.

The Czech Football Association (FACR) does not yet have any information about which players, or clubs and matches the case concerns. These players are mainly from lower competitions with some players from the first league.

"We have no detailed information on the matter, but what the police said in their press release. Until our security manager ( Martin Synecky), currently attending a meeting of UEFA security managers in Warsaw, receives more detailed information, we will not comment on the matter," said FACR spokesman Jaroslav Kolar.

The police will provide no more information on the case at present.
