Scholars attending the 9th International Whitehead Conference in Poland have expressed interest in the way to build an ecological civilization in China, local media reported Thursday.

About 200 scholars from 25 countries and regions, including China,Germany, the United States, Austria and Canada attended the conference. Ecological civilization has become a hot topic in this year's discussion.

Dr. Wang Zhihe, the Director of Institute for Postmodern Development research center of Harbin University of Technology, said that the deepest convergence between Constructive Postmodernism and Chinese Marxism is embodied in creating an ecological civilization.

Rather than emphasizing economic construction as the core of development, as it was the case in the past, China has come to realize that sustainable development must be based on an understanding of an intertwined relationship between humanity and nature.

Clifford Cobb from the American journal of Economics and Sociology said that China has a good cultural tradition, a great past to be the base of ecological civilization.

German scholar Barbara Muraca said that more and more countries now are researching what is the construction of ecological civilization, how to develop ecological civilization, adding that the theory of Chinese traditional culture is a valuable experience for the world.

The International Whitehead Conference is a Professional Symposium of process philosophy and the related contemporary issues of philosophy and the modern world.

The Conference is organized by the Whitehead Metaphysical Society and the Department of Philosophy at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow and is supported by the International Process Network.
