World record signing, Gareth Bale scored on his Real Madrid debut but could not stop his side from dropping two points on their visit to Villarreal on Saturday night.

Bale may have been the center of attention before the game kicked off, but it was Madrid goalkeeper, Diego Lopez who was his side's savior in the first half with a series of spectacular saves to keep Madrid in the match and also to reply those who believe Iker Casillas should be first choice by right.

Lopez had already made three fine stops before Cani put Villarreal ahead with a low shot after 20 minutes and produced another fine double stop before Madrid began to show signs of life.

Bale scored the debut goal that Madrid fans will have been dreaming about six minutes before the break, showing strength to get past his marker to prod home Javier Carvajal's low cross from the edge of the penalty area.

But if Madrid went in level at the break it was thanks to Lopez who was returning to haunt his former club.

The second half kicked off with Bale lashing a shot over the Villarreal bar before Jaume Costa let Madrid off the hook by sidefooting wide of an open goal when it had looked easier to score.

Villarreal may have just returned to the top flight from the Spanish second division, but they were looking the better side against a Madrid that lacked cohesion in both midfield and defense, but which had luck on their side when Ronaldo put them ahead.

The Portuguese striker saw his shot strike a defender before rebounding over the helpless Sergio Asenjo in the Villarreal goal.

Villarreal were soon level. Lopez made another fine save, but could only direct the ball to Geovani Dos Santos, who scored with an angled shot into the far corner with 20 minutes remaining.

There were chances at either end in the closing minutes, but although they had to cling on grimly in the closing minutes, perhaps Villarreal will be more disappointed with the draw.

There was drama a-plenty in the Camp Nou Stadium where Barcelona scored a 93d minute goal to defeat Sevilla 3-2 in a game that was not without its share of controversy.

Led by a brilliant Neymar, Barca had looked to be cruising as Dani Alves and Leo Messi, who had been set up by Neymar had given them a 2-0 lead.

However, a series of missed chances and defensive lapses allowed Sevilla to get back into the match thanks to Igor Rakitic with 10 minutes remaining and Coke was on hand to steer home a corner to level the score 2-2 in the last minute.

Sevilla had chances to win the game in injury time, but in the end it was Barca who came away with the spoils as Messi's persistence set up Alexis Sanchez for the winning goal in the last minute of injury time.

The visitors were angry that referee Muniz Fernandez had allowed the match to run over the allotted three minutes of injury time and also that he had disallowed a goal scored by Juan Cala for a possible push on Alves in the 63rd minute.

The day kicked off with Atletico Madrid brushing past Almeria 4-2 to maintain their 100 percent record. The result never looked to be in doubt after David Villa scored a volley after 16 minutes to put Atletico ahead and Diego Costa slotted home a penalty to double the lead before the break.

Rodri gave Almeria hope with a close range finish at the end of the first half, but two goals midway through the second half thanks to Thiago Cardoso and Raul Garcia sealed the win and Vidal's late consolation for Almeria merely made the result look less convincing that it actually was.

Meanwhile 90 minutes of tedium in Levante's Ciudad de Valencia Stadium ended in a 0-0 draw which just about sums up both sides' merits in the game.
