The student who killed his head teacher at a middle school in Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province, surrendered to Shanghai police Monday morning, and has been transferred to Jiangxi police custody.

According to a post published on the official Sina Weibo of the Pudong Bureau of Public Security, the student made a call to police outside Building 161 on Shangnan Lu in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai around 7:23 am, confessing that he was the one who killed the head teacher at the Linchuan No. 2 Middle School in Jiangxi on Saturday morning and that he wanted to surrender.

Police arrived to take him into custody and the student has been transferred to Jiangxi police, the post said.

An officer surnamed Pei with the Linchuan police department confirmed that the student surrendered to Shanghai police, and a group of Linchuan police went to Shanghai on Sunday and have identified him. Pei said that the investigation is still underway, The Beijing News reported Monday.

The head of the school's administration department, Xiong Haishui, said that the student, surnamed Lei, and the head teacher, surnamed Sun, had a conflict on Friday, when Sun found Lei playing with his mobile phone in class and took it away. He then told Lei to call his parents, according to a Sunday report in The Beijing News.

On Saturday, Lei visited a vice principal in relation to the dispute and after mediation, the teacher and the student left. However, three hours later, the killing happened, Xiong said, adding that Lei was a student with average grades.

Around 11:26 am on Saturday, when Sun, 32, was preparing lessons in the office, Lei used a fruit knife to cut Sun's carotid artery, Xiong said.

Xiong said that when the incident occurred another teacher was also in the office, but the teacher didn't see what was happening because of books on a desk. He said that it was only when the teacher heard Sun's screams he called for emergency assistance. When medical workers arrived, Sun had already died and Lei had escaped.
