Sri Lanka diplomats together with top tea companies presented an educational seminar on appreciation of Ceylon Tea at the Food and Hospitality World China 2013, the External Affairs Ministry said here Wednesday.

Food and Hospitality World China focuses on B2B and high level trade buyers visit the fair, including food importers, distributors, professional caterers and large supermarkets.

This is an important target group to educate on what makes Ceylon Tea unique, including introduction to the seven regional teas.

"The diversity of color, character and aroma of Ceylon Tea was demonstrated and tea tasting was arranged. Given the Chinese customer's growing interest in food quality, it was stressed that Ceylon Tea is the cleanest tea in the world, as well as the most ozone friendly," the statement added.

The Sri Lanka Pavilion at the trade fair, organized by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka, attracted a lot of interest.

As well as Mlesna and Vintage Teas, the Pavilion also promoted Lion Beer and the Lanka Canneries range of jams, juices, chutneys and sauces.

Tea is Sri Lanka's largest earnings crop with 1.5 billion US dollars in revenue.

The industry also has a deep history in the island, which has planted tea for over a hundred years.
