Syria has delivered an initial statement of its chemical weapon inventory to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the organization said on Friday.

The statement is "being reviewed by our verification division," OPCW spokesman Michael Luhan said in a statement. He did not release details of the statement.

Meanwhile, without explanation, the OPCW indefinitely postponed a Sunday meeting of its Executive Council which had been scheduled to discuss how to dismantle Syria's chemical weapons program.

Syria is officially to become an OPCW member on Oct. 14. The Hague-based UN partner is responsible for the implementation and supervision of the international Chemical Weapons Convention.

Last Saturday, the United States and Russia agreed on a plan to eliminate Syria's chemical weapons, asking Syria to submit a "comprehensive listing" of its chemical weapons stockpiles within one week.
