Chinese information and communication technology company Huawei said on Friday that it "deeply regrets" false allegations that have been made by Belgian press.

The Belgian daily De Morgen is the first to have published this by issuing a report Wednesday that Huawei, one of the suppliers of public telecom company Belgacom, was suspected by the CIA and the US Congress of engaging in espionage activities.

On Friday, the daily L'Echo and De Tijd ran a story about "suspicion about China, which has installed software for espionage," following the discovery of an intrusion into the office of Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo, stating that China "perhaps was behind the hacking of the (Belgian) Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

Huawei responded by issuing a statement that refuted these allegations.

"The fact is that there has not been any proof at all to support these false allegations. We will not jeopardize our global commercial success or the integrity of our customers' networks," said Huawei in a statement.

Claiming that it was innocent of the allegations, Huawei reiterated its "open, transparent and sincere attitude," and its commitment to "work with all governments, customers and partners to jointly address cyber security threats and challenges."

Huawei has created 7,500 jobs, including 800 posts in research and development (R&D), in its 13 sites in Europe in countries including Sweden, Finland, Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, Ireland and Italy.

The company's investment in R&D in Europe doubled between 2010 and 2013, and will double again in the next five years, announced Huawei last week.
