The parents of Zhu Lingling, a former student of Tsinghua University who was paralyzed in a high profile poisoning case 19 years ago, have been approached by the school on the matter, Li Chunguang, the attorney representing Zhu's family, wrote on his Weibo Wednesday.

"The university has received my letter and its management began to approach Zhu's family," Li wrote, adding that he has also written to the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council demanding a release of police reports and other information on the case.

The attorney declined to talk about the case, citing requests from both the university and Zhu's parents. Li further wrote that the Beijing police have been in contact with Zhu's parents and that the father has recently recovered from a surgery.

Zhu was allegedly poisoned by thallium in 1994. She suffered serious neurological damage and has been physically paralyzed ever since.

The police never solved the case but Zhu's roommate, Sun Wei, was suspected to have orchestrated the poisoning. The case resurfaced after a student from Shanghai's Fudan University was poisoned to death by his roommate this year.
