The Japanese government said Friday that the country's consumer prices was up 0.8 percent in August from a year earlier for the third straight month of increase.

The core consumer price index, excluding fresh foods, stood at 100.4 against the 2010 base of 100, said the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
